RE: The tariff classification of Atorvastatin Tablets in dosage form, from India
Dear Mr. Shah:
In your letter dated August 6, 2018, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
Atorvastatin imported in tablet form in dosages of 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg is a medicinal preparation containing atorvastatin, a synthetic lipid-lowering agent, as the active ingredient. It is indicated for the prevention of cardiovascular disease in adults.
The applicable subheading for the Atorvastatin Tablets in dosage form will be 3004.90.9220, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for "Medicaments … consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses … or in forms or packings for retail sale: Other: Other: Other: Cardiovascular medicaments." The rate of duty will be free.
